I Left My German Home I love to think about the days So full of joy and glee That never will come back again to me Oh! It was many years ago When but a little boy That I lived there so happy life and free I used to play about all day And drive the cows and sheep Until I was as tired as I could be When my evening prayers were said ['d lay me down to sleep In my little German home across the sea No matter where I roam I don't forget my home That home that ever was so dear to me Oh! It was many times a day My thoughts would fly away To my little German home across the sea I never shall forget the day I left that foreign land To sail across the stormy ocean foam My friends around me come to me And took me by the hand And hoped that safely back again I'd come My father and my mother old They both stood by the door And gave a cheerful blessing unto me But now they're both dead and gone I ne'er shall see them more In the little German home across the sea
