Jesus Is My Friend

    The subject of this lecture:  "Jesus Is My Friend"

    Jesus is my backer
    Stands by me day by day
    And when I need His blessings
    All I've got to do is to pray

    When I was laying at Hell's dark door
    There full of sin
    He opened His door of mercy
    And there He taken me in

    And ever since I've been in Jesus
    And shook a-loose from sin
    The world can be my enemy 
    But Jesus is my Friend

    He left the doors of Heaven
    On the count of love
    He did His work as a Savior
    And went back home above

    What a Friend we have in Jesus
    You know that's the [verest] thing
    Now [while] I've got my instrument
    That's the song that I believe I'll sing

    What a Friend we have in Jesus, all our sins and grief to bear.
    What a privilege to carry everything to God in prayer!
    All our sins have been fulfilled, O what grevious pain we bear,
    All because we do not carry everything to God in prayer.

Phillips sang what would be the first verse of "What A Friend We Have 
in Jesus", except for the third line.  The entire hymn follows:

O what peace we often forfeit, O what needless pain we bear,
All because we do not carry everything to God in prayer.

Have we trials and temptations? Is there trouble anywhere?
We should never be discouraged; take it to the Lord in prayer.
Can we find a friend so faithful who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our every weakness; take it to the Lord in prayer.

Are we weak and heavy laden, cumbered with a load of care?
Precious Savior, still our refuge, take it to the Lord in prayer.
Do your friends despise, forsake you? Take it to the Lord in prayer!
In His arms He?ll take and shield you; you will find a solace there.

Blessed Savior, Thou hast promised Thou wilt all our burdens bear
May we ever, Lord, be bringing all to Thee in earnest prayer.
Soon in glory bright unclouded there will be no need for prayer
Rapture, praise and endless worship will be our sweet portion there.
